Center to end no-detention policy for the class 5 to 8 students
In order to maintain the education standard in the country, the center will soon introduce a bill in the parliament to bring an end to the no-detention policy for the students of class 5 to 8.HRD minister Prakash Javadeka said, that the students of classes 5 to 8 who will not pass the exam March will be given another chance in the month of May but, if they fail to clear the exam in May, they will be detained in the same class.Under the no-detention policy students are promoted to next grade up to class 8.He said “The ‘no-detention’ or 'no-fail’ provision, laid down under Section 16 of the Right To Education (RTE) Act, prohibits schools from detaining or expelling any student up to class 8. The policy had been brought as it was felt that compelling children to repeat a class was demotivating, often forcing them to abandon school. However, several states had raised concerns related to quality of education because of the 'no-detention’ policy.”
