Tamil Nadu not to get exemption from NEET; SC directs government to start the counseling process

Giving a major blow to the Tamil Nadu’s dream of exempting its students from the NEET 2017 exam, the apex court asked the state to start the process of NEET counseling as the request of the state from exempting it from the exam cannot be granted.The court asked the state to start the process immediately and finish it by September 4. According to the reports from Indian Express, the attorney general said “ the ordinance, sent by the Tamil Nadu government on the exemption of NEET, is not good in law”. Tamil Nadu has been against the NEET exam as it said that the exam favors the students from CBSE background and has little consideration for the students who are from state board.The health ministry said that if they accept the demand of the Tamil Nadu then other states will have the similar demands as well.The state has sent its ordinance twice in order to get an exemption. The submitted ordinance was cleared by the both law and HRD ministry but health ministry referred back to the general KK Venugopal and discussed about the additional facts and past judgments of the apex court on the basis of which A-G revised its opinion about giving Tamil Nadu exemption from the NEET exam.
