Open school examination: Aadhaar card mandatory for the students

Government has now made Aadhaar cards mandatory for the candidates appearing for the open school exams after making them mandatory for the exams like JEE, NEET and UGC NET.The government decided to take the move to ensure that no proxy students are appearing on the behalf of the others.National Institute of Open Learning (NIOS) has decided to make Aadhaar cards as a mandatory requirement for the candidates who wish to appear in the next exams. A senior NIOS official said “During the exams held in March, the inspection teams had found proxy candidates who were appearing on other students’ behalf. To check this practice, Aadhaar has been made mandatory”. “There will also be scanner machines at examination centers and only those students whose thumb prints match with the existing data be allowed to give exams,” the official said.NIOS was set up in 1989 with the aim of providing vocational courses besides providing general academic courses at the secondary and senior secondary levels.NIOS has also decided that the schools where the CCTV facility is not available will not be made the center for examination.“This has been decided to ensure that videography of the entire examination process is possible and the footage can be checked in future if need be,” the official added.
