Add student in waiting lists as NRI: Delhi High Court to Center

Delhi High Court directed the center to include the name of the student, who is seeking the admission in MBBS course through NEET exam, in waiting list of deemed universities as NRI. Justice Vibhu Bakhru said that by doing so, the student can approach the deemed university directly and the counsel of the university said that it is acceptable to him. The students, however, originally appeared in the exam as an Indian citizen.The directive was passed by the High Court after Jasmeet Singh, central government’s standing counsel, informed that all the unfilled seats have been released to the deemed universities. The court was hearing the petition of the students who was seeking direction for the center to consider him and admit him as a NRI candidate in the deemed university. The students complete his class 12th last year from Saudi Arabia. His father is from MP and his mother is NRI as she had spent more than 180 days in the last fiscal year in Saudi Arabia.Center also issued a notification regarding the same on July 21 in which it informed all the NRI students who registered under the UR/Indian category to send the relevant documents so that they can be considered under the NRI category.The student said that he has sent the application prior to July 21 and after July 25, which should have been considered.
