LLB aspirants relieved as HC allowed DU to admit 2,310 students

Giving a great relief to the LLB aspirants, HC on Wednesday asked the DU to continue admitting 2310 students for its LLB course. In an interim order by the division bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Vinod Goel allowed the DU to take 2310 students against the cap of 1440 students decided by the Bar Council of India for the academic session 2017-18.These orders from the HC came on the petition filed by the lawyer Joginder Kumar Sukhija against the decision of the BCI to reduce the number of seats. “Don’t reduce the number of seats. Students want to study, let them study. DU has been teaching 2,310 students till now. You (BCI) decided to reduce the seats to half. We need time to decide the case. Till then let 2,310 study,” bench said. “Their (DU) faculty is one of the best in the court (for the course), they provide best facilities… Give them a chance,” court said to the BCI.The next hearing on the matter will be on August 21.The decision of the BCI was opposed by the DU as it said that it had improved its infrastructure and increased the strength of teaching faculty on which the HC asked the BCI to consider the university’s representation and not to decrease the intake of the number of students.Law aspirants have also been protesting against the BCI’s decision to cut the number of seats.
