Aspirant’s age must be minimum 17 year for NEET exam: High Court
After the successful declaration of the NEET 2017 exam, a new change has been introduced in the NEET exam.Recently, High Courts in Punjab and Haryana have made it mandatory for the aspirants that their age be minimum 17 years when they apply for the NEET exam. The exam is conducted by the CBSE for giving admissions into various MBBS and BDS courses in the various institutes across the country.Reasons for the decision As reported in the HT “ the court came up with this order after hearing a plea filed by Jind resident Ranbir Singh Malik on behalf of his minor son had challenged the minimum age criteria to participate in NEET, arguing that no such limit had been prescribed by the Indian Medical Council Act of 1956. His son will turn 17 in February 2018”. Earlier the court allowed another young student named Kuldeep Singh to fill the NEET 2017 application form.Later on, the plea was dismissed by the court because allowing young students to appear for the exam would result in the exhaustion of chances for the candidates. As of now, candidates get only three chances to appear for the NEET exam. With the things going in the favor of the son, the petitioner’s father withdrew the petition as his son will get three chances in the future to appear for the NEET exam. But center raised the objection to it and high court declined the plea and now his son will only get two more chances to appear in the NEET exam. This minimum age condition is applicable from this year and any previous attempt under the NEET exam will be discounted.
