For keeping books in school, CBSE is all set to install lockers

With CBSE introducing huge changes in school curriculum, the board is also now planning to install lockers in the schools so that students can keep their books in schools.In this direction the board will soon be making compulsory for its affiliated schools to install lockers and to keep those books at schools which children don’t need at home.This move is taken by the CBSE to lighten the backpack of the children which have become quite heavy now days. More on the report CBSE has 18000 affiliated schoolsFor new schools, CBSE plans to lay down lockers as a condition in affiliation by laws.CBSE has also set up a committee in order to check the commercialization of school education. Words from senior officials Moreover, a senior official said, “A number of students and parents have raised this issue and despite us having issued many advisories and directions, a lot still needs to be done. If schools have a locker inside the premises, students will be able to keep books that are not required (at home) in the school itself. The investment by the schools will also be a long-term one and which is why we are planning to link it to affiliation.” The government is also considering about dividing the NCERT books into two volumes in order to reduce the burden. To reduce the pressure on the school kids, CBSE last year issued instructions to the schools about not giving any  homework to the students of class I and class II. “Young children whose spine is at a crucial stage of growth are the most susceptible ones to hazards such as back pain, muscle pain, shoulder pain, fatigue and in extreme cases the distortion of spinal cord or shoulders that may most plausibly be attributed to heavy school bags,” the circular said.
