Accreditation process to be reworked by NAAC for higher education institutes

Accreditation process to be reworked by NAAC for higher education institutes

To put an end to the corruption involved in the assessment and grading of the higher education institutes, the ministry of human resource development has asked the National Assessment and Accreditation Council to completely rework the accreditation process. The decision was taken by the ministry after it received various complaints on corruption by the council’s peer team. The ministry had asked the NAAC to bring transparency, objectivity and technology into the grading system. According to the new methodology, peer team assessment will now only be given 20% weightage in contrast to the previous 100% when it comes to deciding the grade of the institution. Also, no institution in advance will know which team will visit them and all the accommodation and travel plans for the team will be outsourced. The major portion of the weightage i.e. 80% will be decided based on the inputs given via Information Communication and Technology (ICT). These are few of the many changes which are in pipeline and all these will be accommodated into the new accreditation process of the higher institutes in order to curb the corruption and bring more transparency and objectivity in the process of assessment and grading.
